Overview
ChessSight ("we," "us," or "our") operates the ChessSight mobile application and website at chesssight.online. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect your information when you use our chess board scanning, analysis, and subscription features.
We collect only what is needed to provide the service, improve reliability, and support billing and customer care. We do not sell your personal information.
Camera Access
ChessSight requests camera access so you can photograph a physical chess board for automatic piece and position detection.
Camera images are used to perform the scan and analysis you request. Images are processed for this purpose and are not used for advertising or unrelated profiling.
You can deny or revoke camera permission at any time in your device Settings. Without camera access, you can still upload an existing photo from your library or set up a position manually in the app.
Photo Library Access
ChessSight may request access to your photo library so you can select an existing chess board image to upload for scanning and analysis.
We access only the image you explicitly choose. We do not browse or collect your entire photo library.
You can revoke photo library access at any time in iOS Settings.
Account Information
When you create an account, we collect information such as your email address, user identifier, and optional display name. Authentication and account storage are handled through our secure cloud provider (Supabase).
We use account information to sign you in, sync your saved positions and preferences, enforce free and premium usage limits, respond to support requests, and send essential service-related communications.
You are responsible for keeping your login credentials confidential.
Subscriptions (Apple App Store)
Premium subscriptions are purchased through Apple In-App Purchase. ChessSight uses RevenueCat to manage subscription status and entitlements. We do not receive or store your full payment card number.
Apple processes payment and may provide us with subscription metadata such as product identifier, purchase date, renewal status, and trial eligibility. This information is used to unlock premium features (including unlimited scans) and to restore purchases when you reinstall the app or sign in on a new device.
To manage or cancel a subscription, use Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions on your iPhone, or the subscription management link in the ChessSight app. Refunds are handled by Apple according to their policies.
Scan, Analysis, and Usage Data
When you scan or analyze a board, we may process the image, detected position (FEN), confidence scores, side to move, and analysis results. Scan usage counts may be recorded to enforce the free plan limit of three scans per rolling 24-hour period.
If you save a position, associated metadata and optional images may be stored in your account so you can access history across devices.
If you correct misdetected pieces, corrected board state may be stored to improve your experience and help us investigate quality issues.
Data Storage and Security
Account and app data are stored on secure cloud infrastructure with industry-standard encryption in transit (HTTPS/TLS) and access controls. Chess analysis and board scanning requests are sent to our production API over encrypted connections.
We apply reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures to protect your data. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure; we cannot guarantee absolute security.
We retain data only as long as needed to provide the service, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. Retention periods may vary by data type (account, usage, billing, and logs).
Your Rights and Data Deletion
Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct, export, or delete your personal information.
You may request account deletion or a copy of your data by emailing us at the boardvisonchess@gmail.com. Include the email address associated with your ChessSight account. We will verify your request and respond within a reasonable timeframe, subject to legal and operational requirements (for example, retaining billing records where required by law).
You can also sign out and uninstall the app at any time. Deleting the app from your device does not automatically delete cloud-stored account data — contact us if you want your account permanently removed.
Children's Privacy
ChessSight is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will take appropriate steps to delete it.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the effective date and version shown at the top of this page and, where required, prompt you to review and accept the updated policy in the app.
Continued use of ChessSight after changes become effective constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
